Volkspark Köpenick

Volkspark Köpenick

February 24, 2026

Köpenick Public Park lies in the triangle formed by Müggelheimer Damm, Pablo-Neruda-Straße, and the Municipal Hospital, not far from Köpenick's historic old town. The park was designed by Berlin's Director of Horticulture, Erwin Barth, and its basic structure has been preserved. Thanks to the restoration of the park's historical design, the high quality of its original layout can once again be experienced. The park's orientation is axially aligned with the hospital complex. Ornamental plantings of lawns and perennial borders have been created in front of the hospital building. A newly designed fountain is situated here, positioned along the central axis. To the north and south, the park is bordered by dense stands of trees. The entrances are particularly noteworthy. The main western entrance is a circular plaza surrounded by a ring of trees. Avenues lead into the park's interior. The secondary entrances are emphasized by geometrically arranged trees. At the heart of the park lies an open, gently sloping lawn for playing and relaxing. To the north are two playgrounds. The park has numerous benches that invite visitors to linger.
